Used To Be The One

by Annie Bacon & her OSHEN

about

Written in 2012 on a screened in summery back porch in Michigan, this song has been waiting for its moment. It tried on a lot of outfits, kissed a lot of toads, etc etc, before landing back in Michigan in the Ypsilanti home studio of Erica Kane Fink and Eric Kuhn in the summer of 2017, where we three made what you hear. It's a love song, of a modern variety. Love is not a red red rose, it's a burning piece of metal in the fire. It's not a cool breeze, it's the ocean and the sky side by side. It is my love song. It is your love song. It is love's love song. I hope it makes you feel something fine.

lyrics

Used to be the one
Loving on the run
Never would stay
Unless I knew it wouldn't work out
Anyway

Now I have a man
He's the only love
I'll ever need again
But I can't say why

We're like two birds on a tree and we're singing the same old lullaby
We're like the ocean and the sky when we're sitting side by side
We're like metal in a fire burning for each other all the time
