"Climbing Fences" is part of a 'Mericans album called 'Like Lomax & Foxfire' (to be released in 2020). It's a song that was initially about Republican attempts to re-write American history, whitewashing parts of it to hide the ugliness or slavery, anti-immigration sentiment, gerrymandering, voter suppression, and their perpetual war on civil rights in America. The song was first written before the 2016 Presidential election, with its lyrics revised to include the GOP's immoral and wrong attacks on migrants seeking asylum in the United States because of unsafe conditions in the countries they are fleeing. It also deals with how we, as Americans, are also at odds with one another that we -- and our families -- are becoming increasingly more divided because of our political views. We are better than all of this. We are not politics, we are people. We are family. ~ Chris Daltry
lyrics
Who do you think you are trying to re-write history
Tearing out the pages you don't wanna believe
I know our history and it ain't pretty
But learning from it leads to new beginnings
Who do you think you are
Trying to re-write history
Who do you think you are
Tearing up the family
You're blurring up the lines so we can't find
You re-write, drawing up new lines
You're tearing up the states 'til they're to your liking
Re-write, re-write, you lie
Who do you think you are
Trying to re-write history
Who do you think you are
Tearing up the family
Who do you think you are
Trying to re-write history
Who do you think you are
Goddamn, you're family
