This song came from my friend Bill more or less. He told me about the tragic death of the love of his life, Rena Lee. How he sometimes talks to her at night when he can't sleep. How he never got over her. He has been homeless more or less for the three decades she's been gone.
This song is me imagining one of those conversations. We gave it a sweet lilt, because Bill is a sweet man who always makes me smile.
lyrics
Rena Lee, please call me
Rena Lee, come home tonight
Rena Lee, let's marry
Rena Lee, let's not fight, oh please
Bill, your heart is broken
Is that what you really want Bill?
I can't come home tonight, you know.
Rena I love you
You broke my heart
Bill, you know I wanted to stay
But life doesn't work quite that way
Someone else had plans for me
When he took my life away
Oh, Rena I love you
He broke my heart
Now I wander the streets without
I always will
